Health Programs

There are a number of health care and wellness resources available to Birmingham residents through Oakland County and the State of Michigan. The resources listed below offer a starting point for those seeking information on free or low-cost health care and wellness issues.

Free Prescription Discount Card

On July 1, 2009, the City of Birmingham will begin offering free prescription drug discount cards to Birmingham residents.  Residents may obtain cards from the City of Birmingham Clerk's office, the Birmingham Police Department, or from the Birmingham Department of Public Services.

Oakland County Resources

Birmingham residents may qualify for one or more of the health programs offered to residents by Oakland County. Details about programs and related information on prescription drug discount cards, discounted dental services, flu shots, immunizations, and other public health issues is available through the Oakland County Health Department at 248.858.1280 or online via the Oakland County's citizen services directory.  

State of Michigan Resources

The State of Michigan Department of Community Health offers a number of resources to assist in finding free or low-cost health care for those who qualify. Information for pregnanat women, persons with disabilities, children/teens, adults, and seniors is accessible from the department's Health Care Coverage website.

The website for the Michigan Surgeon General's Office offers a wide variety of wellness information, including resources to help set up a personal wellness plan, smoking cessation resources, and information on healthy habits.
