Public art is a vital part of the City of Birmingham. Art creates a richly diverse and meaningful experience while enhancing the visual character of our community. We invite you to enjoy the art we have on display and engage a friend, neighbor, or stranger on which piece is their favorite.
The Birmingham Public Arts Board has been reviewing the opportunity from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to obtain steel from the World Trade Center at no cost to create a local memorial. The Board has been soliciting community input over the past few months on this opportunity and before moving any further, the Board would like to confirm that the necessary private funding required to advance this project is available. As a result the Public Arts Board is asking for pledges in support of the $20,000 approximated to fund the project. Anyone interested in making a pledge in support of creating a memorial sculpture using steel from the Port Authority can contact Joe Valentine at 248.530.1809 or by email.
